VLAB: Upside of the Downturn

Here are some highlights from the VLAB event "Upside of the Downturn" on January 20th, 2008.

  • In the bubble, there were a lot of 'Buzzword lamination projects'. Now there are more high quality pitches
  • In times of uncertainty, it is human nature to go with fads and fashion
  • Retired entrepreneurs going back to work for other startups (due to portfolio decline) and can be a great resource
  • Stimulus will likely go to 'staggering giants' to preserve jobs, not Silicon Valley and not green technology
  • Government grants a way of funding experimental projects, but should find someone experienced to write the grant
