Linux

I have always wanted to setup a Linux server, but never had the time. So once I retired in April 2005, this was the first thing I did.

Previously, I had some web sites and mail accounts running on a Windows box. So I setup a Mandrake server and moved everything over to it.

It was really slow going because I have only worked sporadically with Linux since my UC Berkeley days. So even simple things, like figuring out how much space is left on a disk, would take me quite a bit of time to figure out. Also, for every program I installed I had to learn how to do the configuration. And of course, there were a lot of dependency issues. For instance, Courier IMAP didn’t like the latest version of Berkeley DB, so I had to install an older version. By the time everything was working, it had taken me almost two weeks!

Linux Info

Here is some info on Linux stuff. Mainly these are notes to myself so I can remember how I it up, Linux commands, regular expression syntax, that sort of thing.
