Topic: Lessons Learned
- Batteries are too expensive
- Minimum 20k units per year for profit
- ZEV program viewed as cost by US OEM; as a threat by Japan OEM
- EV deployments require education of consumers and industry
- Public fast charging infrastructure was expensive and over subsidized
- Need to simplify buy process (shouldn't have to sell the infrastructure with car: setup house for charging, change utility rates, etc)
- Multiple charging standards increased problems and cost
- Niche markets provide a lot of opportunity
- Keys for success:
- Keep it simple
- Will require social adaptations given limited range and charging
- Better coordination between partners
- R&D and deployment will take time
