• We are at an inflection point in our county, especially with transformation of the $7 trillion energy industry worldwide
• China’s energy consumption has been increasing dramatically and is close to surpassing the US
• We need to be able to use electricity in transportation
• 80% of drivers drive fewer than 40 milesper day. Converting to PHEV-40 can cut gasoline usage in half
• Job 1: Convert pickups, SUVs and vans (PSVs) first
• Can power 50M EVs with existing electric infrastructure
• Need better battery technology, should see 50% drop in price in 5 years
• Retrofit PSVs at a 10x rate: 10M PHEV PSVs on roads in 4 years
• 50% tax credit for retrofit, paid for by increased vehicle license fees, free electricity for 2 years
• Create special federal court for IP
• Auto manufacturers to adopt open-source for batteries and control systems
• CA Energy Commission member comment ‘He is completely insane’
